Shack Fire Leaves Resident with Nothing in KwaThema

Around 8:00 AM, a devastating fire broke out in a shack located on Maziya Street in KwaThema Extension 3. The son of Petros Sibiya was awakened by loud screams and shouting from neighbors urging him to wake up as 3 shacks within their premises were fully engulfed in flames.

Despite efforts by the community to extinguish the fire, it was already too late. The entire 3shacks had been consumed by the blaze. According to residents, firefighters were called, but there was no immediate response.

Petros Sibiya, the homeowner, suspects that an electrical cable connected to the shack may have been the cause of the fire as he was not home but at work ,and he got the news through a phone call that the shack caught fire, and he had to rush home to see for himself. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported on the scene.

Sbusiso Zulu, the occupant of the burned-down shack, shared that he lost everything in the fire — including his blankets, computer, shoes, clothing, important documents, and work certificates. He is now left only with the clothes he was wearing at the time and is uncertain about his next steps.

The family is appealing to the public for any form of assistance. Those willing to help can contact Mxolisi Sibiya at 074 756 8305, and Councillor of Ext3 is expected to meet with the family concerning this incident.
