Tsakani, South Africa – In a significant crackdown on drug activity, two men were arrested in Tsakani on May 30 by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officers for possession of a substantial quantity of Mandrax pills. The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation by the EMPD's Eastern Region Community Liaison Unit.
Acting on a tip-off regarding the sale of illicit substances on Nyanyankulu Street in Extension 8, Tsakani, EMPD officers swiftly responded to the reported location. Upon their arrival, authorities observed two elderly males, aged 63 and 59, in the process of counting numerous brown pills.
The suspects were immediately apprehended, and a large quantity of what is suspected to be Mandrax was confiscated. The successful operation highlights the EMPD's ongoing commitment to combating drug-related crime within the community and disrupting the supply chains of illegal narcotics.
The arrested men are expected to face charges of drug possession. Further investigations are underway to determine the origin of the drugs and whether the suspects are linked to a larger drug distribution network. The EMPD urges community members to continue providing valuable information to assist in the fight against crime.
