A 64-year-old grass cutter was severely stung this morning (Tuesday) after he accidentally disturbed a swarm of bees while working on a property in Cottonlands KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
The incident reported to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) around 08:24 involved the man receiving numerous stings to his face and body. Initial calls from residents stated the man had become unresponsive.
RUSA Reaction Officers and Paramedics quickly arrived to find the victim conscious but heavily stung. They learned the man had attempted to "play dead" to prevent further attacks. With the assistance of a local resident, officers safely moved the grass cutter away from the danger.
He received immediate medical treatment at the scene for his injuries before being transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for comprehensive care.
