A tragic shooting incident has rocked the community of Alexandra after a young woman was gunned down in broad daylight near the busy intersection of 5th London and Ruth Street on Wednesday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman had just dropped a baby off at a nearby crèche and was walking towards a local vendor to buy magwinya (traditional fried dough snacks) when she was suddenly ambushed and shot multiple times. Authorities confirm she was struck six times and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Emergency services responded swiftly, but the woman was declared dead upon arrival of paramedics. Law enforcement officials have cordoned off the area and are currently investigating the scene.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear. Police spokespersons stated that it is too early to speculate whether the attack was targeted or random. No arrests have been made as of yet.
Community members gathered in shock, many expressing concern over the increasing levels of violence in the area. "It's heartbreaking — she had just left her child at the crèche. That baby now has no mother," one resident said.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with the investigation.
