FATAL BUS CRASH: CITY OF EKURHULENI CONFIRMS BUS WAS ROADWORTHY

Ekurhuleni, March 12, 2025 – Officials from the City of Ekurhuleni have confirmed that the city-owned passenger bus involved in a tragic crash on Tuesday, March 11, was roadworthy. The crash, which occurred at approximately 06:32 on the R21 northbound near the R24 split, close to OR Tambo International Airport, resulted in 77 passengers sustaining injuries.

Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of the accident, which involved the city-owned bus and an unidentified light motor vehicle. The severity of the injuries varied among the passengers, with eight individuals in critical condition, 40 suffering serious injuries, and 29 evaluated to have moderate to minor injuries.
