Naas, Mpumalanga – June 20, 2025
An incident that has left residents in shock and sparked widespread conversation unfolded this morning in Naas, Mpumalanga, when a local man reportedly suffered a bizarre and painful medical condition — allegedly after sleeping with another man’s wife.
According to eyewitnesses and early reports, the man’s private parts became unusually swollen and developed open wounds shortly after his alleged affair with a married woman in the community. The situation quickly drew the attention of locals, with some claiming the woman's husband had used "muthi" (traditional African medicine) to punish the man for the infidelity.
“He was walking normally yesterday,” said a nearby shopkeeper. “This morning, he was rolling on the ground crying, saying he was in pain. People say it’s the husband’s doing. He warned him before.”
Cellphone footage taken at the scene shows the man in visible distress, unable to walk properly. Residents can be heard speculating that the husband may have visited a traditional healer to place a curse of protection on his wife — a practice still respected and feared in some South African communities.
Local authorities and emergency medical services were called to the scene to assist the man, who was later transported to a nearby clinic for treatment. Medical staff have not released a diagnosis, but an official from the local clinic, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the injuries were "serious and unusual."
Police spokesperson Sergeant Mpho Maseko said no criminal case has been opened as yet, but investigations are ongoing. “We are aware of the incident. We urge the community to refrain from spreading rumors or sharing explicit images. If foul play is suspected, proper legal processes must be followed,” Maseko said.
Traditional healers in the region were not surprised by the incident. One local inyanga (healer), who asked not to be named, said: “Many men come to us when they suspect their wives are being unfaithful, and we provide protection. If someone crosses that boundary, there are consequences — spiritual ones.”
The incident has once again brought to the surface the complex intersection of cultural beliefs, relationships, and justice in rural South African communities. While some residents sympathized with the injured man, others saw the incident as a cautionary tale against infidelity.
As the man receives medical treatment, the community continues to buzz with speculation, reflection, and a renewed respect for traditional customs.
