Tragic Discovery: Nyaope Addict Known as Black Jesus Found Dead in Daveyton

Daveyton, Gauteng – April 5, 2025

A somber mood has settled over the community of Daveyton after the lifeless body of a well-known nyaope user, popularly referred to as Ganda Ganda, was discovered yesterday evening around 5 p.m.

According to local residents, the deceased was often seen roaming the streets of Daveyton, battling a long-standing addiction to nyaope — a dangerous street drug that has plagued many South African communities. His real name remains unknown to many, as he was mostly recognized by his street name, Black Jesus, a nickname reportedly inspired by his erratic movements and heavy footsteps.

The exact circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear at this time. Authorities arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted by concerned community members who noticed him lying motionless near an abandoned building. Paramedics who arrived later declared him dead on the scene.

Police have since opened an investigation to determine the cause of death. While no foul play is currently suspected, toxicology tests and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to provide more clarity.

Several residents expressed sadness, noting that despite his addiction, Ganda Ganda was not violent and was often seen trying to survive by asking for food or small change. One resident, who chose to remain anonymous, said, “He was always around, and even though he was troubled, he never harmed anyone. It’s sad to see his life end like this.”

This tragic event highlights the ongoing crisis of substance abuse, particularly the grip of nyaope on young lives in South African townships. Community leaders and social workers continue to call for more robust interventions, rehabilitation programs, and education to prevent such losses in the future.

Authorities have appealed to anyone who may have information about Black Jesus’s real identity or circumstances leading up to his death to come forward.
