UPDATE: Springs Accident Involving Scholar Transport and Car Sends Children to Hospital

Springs, Gauteng - This morning, a collision involving a scholar transport minibus and a Hyundai Getz occurred on a busy Springs road, sending ten schoolchildren to hospital for observation. The incident took place at approximately 08:05 AM, causing significant traffic disruption.

According to eyewitness accounts, the scholar transport minibus, carrying ten children from Pollak Park Primary School, attempted to overtake a line of traffic by crossing the barrier line and entering the path of oncoming vehicles. This maneuver resulted in a head-on collision with a Hyundai Getz, driven by a woman accompanied by her child.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene. Both drivers sustained serious injuries and were treated on site before being transported to medical facilities. As a precautionary measure, all ten children from the scholar transport were also taken to N17 Hospital for thorough medical observation. Thankfully, initial reports indicate no fatalities.

"The driver of the minibus was visibly shaken and experiencing cold," reported an on-scene responder, who noted the use of a silver foil emergency blanket to provide warmth.

The incident has prompted the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department to issue a strong warning to motorists, urging them to exercise extreme caution, particularly during wet weather conditions. The frequent occurrence of collisions highlights the need for increased patience and adherence to traffic regulations.

"We urge all drivers to prioritize safety and exercise patience, especially during periods of heavy traffic and adverse weather," stated a spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metro Police. "Overtaking on barrier lines and disregarding road safety rules puts lives at risk."

The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. Updates will be provided as they become available. The community is reminded to remain vigilant and prioritize road safety to prevent similar incidents in the future.
