SASSA to Suspend SRD Grants Over ID Verification

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced plans to suspend Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants for beneficiaries who have not re-applied for the grant and completed the mandatory identity verification process.

In 2024, SASSA introduced a facial recognition system to enhance grant security and combat identity theft and fraud. This system aims to ensure that SRD grants are accurately disbursed to the intended recipients.

"We understand that many beneficiaries may not be aware of the re-application process and the importance of identity verification," said a SASSA spokesperson. "However, it is crucial for the integrity of the SRD grant program and to ensure that funds reach those who truly need them."

Beneficiaries who have not re-applied or completed the verification process will receive notifications from SASSA. The agency urges all recipients to prioritize re-application and verification to avoid disruptions to their grant payments.

Key Points:

Re-application and Verification: All SRD grant beneficiaries are required to re-apply for the grant and complete the mandatory identity verification process.

Facial Recognition System: SASSA has implemented a facial recognition system to prevent fraud and ensure accurate grant disbursement.

Suspension of Grants: Beneficiaries who fail to re-apply and complete verification may face suspension of their SRD grant payments.

Importance of Compliance: SASSA emphasizes the importance of beneficiary compliance with the re-application and verification requirements.

How to Re-apply and Verify:

Online Platform: Beneficiaries can re-apply and complete the verification process through the designated online platform.

SASSA Offices: Alternatively, beneficiaries can visit their nearest SASSA office for assistance with the re-application and verification process.

SASSA has encouraged beneficiaries to contact their local office or visit the official SASSA website for further information and guidance on the re-application and verification process.
